Review: Abbott Elementary, "Mural Arts" | Season 2, Episode 17
Things get messy, at both Abbott and Bone Town
While Abbott Elementary’s February sweeps episodes did plenty of work on the Janine/Gregory will-they-won’t-they relationship front, they also made sure to set the stage for the Abbott Elementary/Legendary Charter Schools head-to-head to propel us through—at the very least—the rest of this season. “Mural Arts” isn’t necessarily as funny as the past three episodes nor is it as emotionally hard-hitting or gratifying, it still manages to be a mostly successful episode. Not only does it continue to really hone in on the charter struggles facing Abbott Elementary and the neighborhood, but it also manages to place Janine and Gregory in another new position, now both single after their drunken kiss (and decision to settle into denial) in “Teacher Conference.”
Less successful, however, is the titular mural arts portion of the episode. While the episode has characters like Melissa, Barbara, and Ava realize they’re going to need to fight against Legendary and Draemond Winding, the…
