Review: Abbott Elementary, "Candy Zombies" | Season 2, Episode 6
Abbott Avengers assemble for a mixed bag of a Halloween episode
“Candy Zombies” is a pretty singular episode of Abbott Elementary. Even with plot points like the “Ghost Janitor,” characters not “getting” Gregory’s “Sully” Sullenberger costume, and Janine’s acceptance of having a life outside of the school (and also letting Gregory have one too), it’s hard to think of the episode as anything other than “the one where the teachers have to find and stop the candy thief.” But also, with that in mind, “Candy Zombies” isn’t necessarily as laser-focused as most Abbott Elementary episodes tend to be. In fact, the episode feels more like a collection of loose moments—in the form of those aforementioned plot points—than it does a fully fleshed-out episode itself. Most likely because of that singular focus, which arguably shoehorns in a synergistic Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame riff as its plot.
While honestly a Halloween episode and a fun episode for what it is, “Candy Zombies” also kind of just throws a lot of things at the wal…
