Review: Abbott Elementary, “100th Day of School” | Season 4, Episode 15

Just to be clear, despite the presumption one might make from the episode title “100th Day of School” is not the 100th episode of Abbott Elementary. It’s actually the 64th episode of Abbott Elementary. And boy does it feel like a 64th episode of television. Sure, that’s not necessarily a specific kind of episode, but “100th Day of School” definitely makes it seem like it should be, as an episode that never really moves out of the gear of, “yeah, this is an episode.”
In a way, that feeling is appropriate for an episode about the 100th day of school and the lengths that teachers may have to go to in order to keep their students engaged and not just wondering when summer break will finally arrive. That’s not actually what “100th Day of School” is about—it’s more of a backdrop for a thin plot that at least leads to some pretty funny visuals—but it would have made sense as a premise.
