Episodic Schedule Update: Winter 2024
A quick update on what to expect in the last months of the year
Normally, I’d love to offer more clarity on what’s to come for multiple months at a time, but there are still lots of uncertainties about what shows will be debuting in the new year. However, since we announced our fall schedule back in September, there’s been a few more pieces that have fallen into place, so let’s go ahead and update you on what’s coming in November and December. If you’re excited about what you see, become a paid subscriber today.
New Coverage
Silo (November 15, Ben Rosenstock): You already knew about this one, but just a reminder ahead of today’s first review that Ben is back to cover the second season after doing catchup coverage of S1 over the summer.
Dune: Prophecy (November 17, Myles McNutt): It’s the season of franchise extensions at Warner Bros. Discovery, and moving them from Max to HBO has added some additional prestige pressures in the process. The six-episode prequel is set way before the events of the recent films, and while I haven’t read Herbert’s books, I’m curious to hear how those who have respond to a show that Friend of the Newsletter Meghan O’Keefe suggests “gives Dune back to the Herbert Heads.”
Skeleton Crew (December 3, Josh Spiegel): We still don’t know a whole lot about this youth-oriented Star Wars project, but after The Acolyte, it’s hard to really know how to understand these shows’ place in the state of the franchise. As we await the spring return of Andor, Josh dives back in to consider how this latest iteration finds its footing.
Dexter: Original Sin (December 13, Alex McLevy): Look, I don’t think anyone is going to defend the creative impulse of Dexter Babies in the abstract, but the original series is a vital piece of the last two decades of television, and its recent revival was successful enough that it’s clear people care about the I.P. As such, Alex will be walking us through Showtime’s efforts to get into the franchise extension game, alongside the episodes’ streaming debut each Friday.
Rewind Coverage
Severance (Saturdays starting November 16): It’s been almost three years since Severance debuted, and there’s no question that we’ll all need a refresher when it returns for season two in January. And while I know they’ve been sitting in the archives since the very beginning of Episodic Medium, we have 100x more subscribers than we did when I sent out my first review, so over the next nine weeks I’ll be resending my reviews of season one to paid subscribers, along with links to the original reviews if you want to add to the conversation.
Calendars
As always, your support makes Episodic Medium possible, and so there’s literally no bad time to become a paid subscriber. Looking forward to the conversations we’ll have about these shows over the next couple of months.
I know you guys usually don't do binge releases but I'd love to see, and I think there may be enough overall interest in, coverage of Squid Game season 2. I also understand that it's a busy schedule and you can't cover everything, just thought I'd throw it out there!
I know its three episodes at a time model does not exactly qualifies for episodic but I think that Arcane would really have its place among your coverage. It is way better than it has any right to be!
