As memorable as the summer portion of The O.C.’s first season is, it’s always impressive to realize that that was just the show scratching the surface. Because despite the beach setting, it can’t always be summer for the series. Instead, when it’s not summer, that’s when the first season really gets going. Sure, episodes like “The Model,” “The Debut,” and “The Escape” provided memorable moments, but episodes like “The Rescue,” “The Heights,” and “The Perfect Couple” are the show ushering in an era where it really knows what it’s doing. Confidence. That’s what The O.C. has, moving forward (even more than it initially had), and that’s what still makes it so enjoyable to watch 20 years later.
