If there’s one thing The Boys loves doing, it’s delivering deadly serious life and death stakes in the midst of the silliest settings you could ever plausibly imagine being real. I’ve often wondered why more comedies haven’t made hay out of how ludicrous most IP-themed ice skating shows are. Speaking as someone who always enjoys them, they are deeply, almost powerfully stupid affairs. Even Disney On Ice, inarguably the high-water mark for such productions, is objectively bananas. So taking one of these shows and adding the frankly not-that-far-removed-from-many-contemporary-Christian-fundamentalist-performances element of Vought’s right-wing politics, all so the show can unleash a bloodbath? That’s just damn good entertainment.
Sure, there’s some potent psychodrama and character studies happening, but this dip into espionage thriller territory actually counts as one of the more light-hearted episodes of the series in recent memory. (That’s admittedly gr…
