Review: Survivor, "Momma Bear" | Season 46, Episode 12
Some confusing editing leads to a shockingly crystal clear tribal council
I’ll admit up front I should have reached out to Ben about covering last night’s episode of Survivor—I had to be out of town for the day, and while I thought it was possible that I could be back in time to write about it last night, I knew that was unlikely. And so now it’s Thursday morning, and I’m just sitting down to watch the episode, and now I’m worried that I’m Charlie to his Maria, and he’s at his Brooklyn apartment feeling robbed of an opportunity and using it to fuel a plot for revenge (Ben, please forgive me).
“Mamma Bear” is an episode of television that never stops to imagine that this season hinges on anything other than Charlie and Maria’s relationship. When Nuinui returns from tribal council, Q gives this braggadocious confessional about how he stopped Venus from targeting him, but Q didn’t do anything. And when it’s revealed that Ben’s vote for Kenzie was literally a brain fart, you realize that there’s literally no “game” happening outside of Maria and Charlie at this …
