Review: Bad Monkey, "Yo, Would You Tell Ms. Chase I Still Love Her Like Crazy" | Season 1, Episode 6
A Ro-centric episode deepens the characters but pauses the plot
Last week, I expressed concern about Bad Monkey potentially not having enough story left to sustain the second half of the season, and this episode confirmed my suspicions a little bit as it hits pause on the main story. I wouldn’t call “Yo, Would You Tell Ms. Chase I Still Love Her Like Crazy” a wheel-spinning episode, but it does spend a lot of time on stuff other than the primary plot, to mixed results. I don’t mind getting some new developments on Bonnie’s storyline or some character-building for Rogelio, but those things come at the expense of progress in Yancy and Rosa’s investigation/relationship, which doesn’t move forward at all beyond some set-ups for things to come later.
There is a good reason for the halt in the investigation, however,: Yancy gets arrested for the murder of Israel O’Peele and spends most of the episode in jail, which means he, Rogelio, Rosa, and Rogelio’s improbably jacked lawyer husband Monte (Victor Turpin) have to spend the episode deal…
